Printing in Canada vs. the US

Why a mug for Calgary takes longer than a mug for Chicago, and what we are doing about it.

Vessim ships to two countries, and they are not the same. Our print partners publish a standard delivery window per product per destination, and we show you that window before you pay. For the US it is usually two to five business days. For Canada the same product can be ten to thirty.

Where the gap comes from

Most of the catalog's lowest-cost partners are in the United States. A product printed in Georgia reaches Chicago in a few days. The same parcel to Calgary clears a border, changes carriers, and sits in a sort facility. The window the partner publishes reflects that, and we would rather show the honest range than a hopeful average.

What we do today

  • Show the per-product, per-destination window on the product page and in the delivery-date checker.
  • Derive the Christmas cutoffs from the slower end of those windows, separately for Canada and the US.
  • Prefer partners that ship to both countries, so the same design works for either address.

What's next

Several partners print inside Canada, and for some products they are faster even where they cost a little more. The next version of our partner selection chooses per destination: a Canadian address gets the Canadian partner when that shortens the window materially. You'll see it as shorter dates on the Canadian side of the checker.

A date you can plan around is worth more than a date that looks good.
