What it is for
Cutting boards, coasters and placemats are housewarming and wedding staples: useful every day, personal with a name or a date.
Food-contact surfaces are usually decorated on the reverse or border; the print area below shows where.
Dye sublimation
Sublimation prints the design onto transfer paper with dye ink; heat then turns the dye into a gas that bonds into a polyester coating or polyester fibre.
Colour becomes part of the surface rather than a layer on top, so it is vivid and does not crack or peel. It cannot print white: white in a design shows as the colour of the item itself, which is why sublimated items are white or pale.
There is no texture at all — on fabric you cannot feel the print, and on a mug it is under a smooth coating.
Designs that suit it
Monograms, family names, dates and simple illustrations. Coasters are small — one element each.
The print area is on the front: 1,125 × 1,125 pixels, about 3.8 × 3.8 in at 300 dpi — a roughly square area. The studio generates the design at that size, so it is printed from a full-resolution file rather than an enlarged preview.
Full-colour photographs, paintings and edge-to-edge patterns. Less suited: designs that rely on white ink, and important detail right at seams, handles or edges where the transfer wraps.
Sentences that would suit it

“Decorative Art Nouveau flowers for my sister who loves Mucha”
Plate 38, from Documents Décoratifs, Alphonse Mucha, 1902. Public domain. Shown on our example cork back coaster.

“'Grow slow' with a little sprig, for the plant lover”
Example design by Vessim. Shown on our example cotton apron.

“One striped Dutch tulip for my Dutch mum”
Study of a Tulip (Ammirael Winckel), Pieter Holsteyn II, c. 1645. Public domain. Shown on our example cork back coaster.
Examples by Vessim: public-domain art and our own lettering, not studio output. The studio designs yours from your sentence.
Where it is printed, and when it arrives
It is printed to order in Miami, FL, United States, then shipped: 5–15 business days to Canada ($14.78 CAD for the first item) and 2–5 business days to the US ($7.80 CAD). Each window counts from the day the order is placed and includes printing.
Printed in North America, so it ships without an overseas leg and no import duties apply within North America.
To arrive by Christmas 2026 with standard shipping, order by December 4 for Canada and December 18 for the US — that is the Hardboard Back Coaster's own longest window counted back from December 25.
How it compares with our other kitchen pieces
- Of the 21 kitchen pieces in the catalogue, 3 cost less and 17 cost more.
- Its longest delivery time to Canada, 15 business days, is the same as the family's median of 15; no other kitchen pieces arrive sooner.
- 18 of the 21 are printed in North America, this one included.

Before you order
How long does the Hardboard Back Coaster take to arrive?
To Canada, 5–15 business days, with first-item shipping at $14.78 CAD; to the US, 2–5 business days ($7.80 CAD). It is printed to order in Miami, FL, United States, and the window counts from the day you order, printing included.
Can I put a photo on the Hardboard Back Coaster?
Yes. Sublimation reproduces photographs in full colour with no texture. White areas print as the item's own colour, so a photo with a white background blends into it. The print file is 1125 × 1125 pixels on the front, so a photo should be at least that size to print sharply.
When should I order the Hardboard Back Coaster for Christmas?
With standard shipping, by December 4 to Canada and December 18 to the US. Those dates count this product's longest delivery window back from December 25 in business days. Express shipping at checkout, where it is offered, shortens the window.
How do I look after the Hardboard Back Coaster?
It is sublimation-printed, and that sets the care. Wipe clean with a soft, damp cloth. No abrasive cleaners or solvents on the printed face.
